It is a REQUIREMENT to provide a seed metric when redistributing into RIP and EIGRP.
But instead of memorizing when it is required and when it is not - you can get into the habit of setting a seed metric all the time, as long as this does not violate any explicit or implicit task requirement in the lab exam.
For a potential follow-up question/issue - what should you set the seed metric to? Well, in general - you want it to be less preferable to internal routes, so you should think about poisoning this seed metric a bit. Redistributing into EIGRP is typically done with 1 1 1 1 1 (this poisons and is really fast to type) - and we typically do 7 or so when redistributing into RIP in the lab.
As a side note, when you really start to love and cherish redistribution exercises, you are getting ready to pass your exam. :-)
