Q1 - When you are about to make a configuration they did not explicitly ask you for, I recommend that you ask yourself two questions:
a. Will this configuration potentially help me gain points in this lab?
b. Will this configuration potentially cost me any points in this lab?
If you answer YES and NO respectively - you should most likely go for your extra config!
Q2 - If they say to Configure R1 in OSPF area 0 and there is no diagram or any other guidance - your quick trick will be swell.

Subject: OSPF router-id and net 0.0.0.0 in the LAB
Hello,
In the LAB:
Is it safe to assign OSPF router id on a router even if not instructed ?
Also, if task just says "configure R1 in OSPF area 0", is it safe to type
"net 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 are 0"
Did you or will you use those commands ?
Thanks,
