How to test a BRI backup int?

is there any way to test a backup int without physically disconnecting the
serial int that you are trying to backup? shutting down a serial interface
for example, when the backup int is a bri doesn't do the trick, but pulling
the cable from the serial int does (automatically brings up the bri int.)
