If you're on the frame switch anyway, doing a "shut" would be a WHOLE lot
easier. :)

take a note of your config on the frame interface. i.e. cut paste stuff.
change the encapsulation to ppp and hey presto you will have a down down
interface your bri will come up (hopefully if you have configured properly).
Once happy copy over your config again.

Couple ways...

The simplest way is physical disconnection.
Otherwise, get to the frame switch and shut the interface down.

Beyond that, if you are running sub-interfaces, you can put the backup
interface command specific to that sub-if. And DLCI.

Otherwise the "up" associated with the line itself has to do with clocking
your router is receiving from the frame switch. Even if ALL of your DLCI's
go to inactive, you are still exchanging LMI's 'n' receiving clock from the
DCE device (frame switch). So, either unplug it or perform a "shut" at the
frame switch.

That will accomplish what you are looking for. Enjoy!

Scott

I tried to use FR end-to-end keepalive on a multipoint interface and when I
shut the remote interfaces, the PVC status changes to inactive but the line
protocol stays 'up'. So, I couldn't test 'backup interface' command. Anybody
tried this before?
