OT: We need your Voice - Petition to Cisco for CCIE Voice

Greetings to all,

First of all, my apology for posting this to the group quite off topic.
And also for those who has already been aware of the situation in the past
few days.

I personally feel that the decision to retire CCIE Voice track while the
core vertical technology doesn't change will lead to a step in the wrong
direction to the future of the CCIE certification that most of us in the
group care for.

With that fact, I feel that if there is no suitable transition path for the
CCIE Voice toward CCIE Collaboration apart of retaking the lab, an
undesirable precedence will be successfully established. And the same
thing can happen to any other IE track in the future as well. If we wait
until that affect your CCIE Track of choice directly, it will be too late
because by then the precedence will have been established.

William Bell has done a great job in a post that voice his concerned and
outlined what has happened -

Use your own discretion, but if you think it is in your best interest to be
concerned about it, we need your voice too. Let your voice be heard at

Please also help pass the petition link on to ensure that everyone that
could be affected is well informed over the situation.

Below is a message from John Welsh who created the petition.

Subject: CCIE Voice Transition
To: somphol_at_gmail.com

It's been just 48 hours since our petition was launched and we already have
540 supporters. I just wanted to say thank you to all of the people that
have supported this, you guys are awesome! That being said, I want to
continue adding people to this list to make Cisco hear our voice. If you
can forward this petition on to anyone else that you know that this will
effect it would be a huge help! Just some examples to get you brainstorming
if you are a CCIE that this would effect:

1. Your spouse - I'm sure that your spouse supported you an put up with the
time away you had to spend from your family the first time that you took to
pass the lab. I'd bet they would rather have a reasonable transition plan
for you to get to Collaboration rather than having to dedicate the time and
money to another series of labs.

2. Your boss - again, time away from work, potentially money is going to
effect them.

3. If you work for a partner: account managers, engineering managers,
partner ownership and other engineers in your company: There's a time and
money thing involved here too, there is also the perception for your
customers that you have an obsolete certification. Additionally, while
Cisco has said nothing to this extent yet, my firm belief is that if you
are a Master UC partner then in the long term it will be required to have a
Collaboration IE on staff instead of a Voice IE. This hasn't been announced
yet, but I can definitely see this potentially being the long term path,
that means either extra headcount or extra expense to upgrade the Voice IEs
on staff.

Again, thank you so much for supporting this petition, let's make ourselves
heard!
