Understanding why UdLD was created would help. Here is a way to test it.... This is the reason UdLD was created.

                    Tx. Rx
                     /. \
                    /. \
                 Rx. Tx
              Sw2. Sw3
 
You will need to separate the TX and RX on one end of the cable and connect to opposite devices.
