How do VOIP phone register with CCM.

Our network uses point to point RF links, and sometimes the RF takes short
interference 30 sec to 1 min. This causes the VOIP phone to re-register with
the call manager, and non-technical people think the network is down because
the phone are re-registering. How does the VOIP phone know the signal has
dropped? Does the phone use a type of hello or keepalive? can this value be
adjusted in the Call manager. I tried simple google searches but i could not
find the protocol or method the phone use to stay registered with the CCM.

Thank you
Rob
