OT Parnters and Attached CCIE

So, I currently work for a cisco partner and have been talking to other
prospective employers who are also partners. They're all really turned off
by the whole 'can't take advantage of my CCIE for 12 months' thing. I've
been told that, that only applys if they're using me for a role for
certification, anyone have any experance with that? Anyone know of a way to
check that without tipping my hand to my current employer?
