Being picky, would you define "reserve" for me (and the rest of the
audience :-)
Routers do not "hard allocate" bandwidth (in all but weird TDM configs)
in the sense that any traffic can use the whole available bandwidth if
there is not competing traffic (and it is not hiting a policing
function, implied by RSVP or priority or explicit).
So the meaning of "reserve" I usually think of is that "if the bandwidth
is needed, then it will be there for you". Yes, I agree that RSVP needs
a bit of protocol for you to say you want to use it, but it is there,
reserved.
(Also, it counts against your max-reserved bandwidth, another hint that
it is reserved :-)
As I said, as long as you have a clear concept of diff serv/int serv,
queuing, policing and shaping, the proctor should be able to clarify the
rest...
