vty authentication problems

Hi all,

I entered the following on my router:

***************************
username tester password test1

aaa-new-model
aaa authentication login default local

line vty 0 4
login authentication default

***************************

However, after I entered this config, I did a show run and the login
authentication default command wasn't there. What's worse, when I tried to
telnet to this router, I was prompted for a name and pasword which I
correctly entered, but the response was "Authentication failed"

Can anyone explain what's going on here and why I can't authenticate?
