I was and am pretty sure that the channel group number is only local significant. Before my post, I checked the command and config guide again. But the part that you quoted does not nessaryly mean the number is local signicante.

Actually I configed a port-channel between two 6500 and used different channel-group number (typo!!!!, in production), and it worked fine. There days later eigrp neighbor between 2 6500s began flapping. After changed to same channel-group number, the problem disappeared.

So I'm still not 100% sure that channel group number is only locally significant.
