When I do 'show voice call sum' I see g729 as the codec, maybe I have to set
it explicitly. ( I have enabled rpt header compression )Is the load number
in 'show inter' good way of measuring the bw usage ?

Are you sure you are correctly configured for g729? It should only be
approx. 8k.
