My experience is that SC is the most serviceable connector type which makes it very good for terminating multifiber cables into fiber distribution panels. (ST actually made a better physical connection but was harder to build.). All SFP's user LC connectors. Every attenuator I have see is also only SC. The long and the short of it is this: keep lots of spare SC to LC duplex pigtails and you will be fine.
Even if I was building a data center, I would keep the panels SC and convert for the equipment. The reasons for this is pretty straight forward. There is more choices of equipment in SC for structured cable runs and more equipment available with LC connects (right now.). Fiber connector types come and go all the time (mu anyone?). SC easily converts, has very good track records for maintenance and durability and has been around a long time. If I was going to bet on a connector to stay the universal common denominator it would be SC. Buying anything else in panels, etc is going to be nearly a specialty item.

However from personal experience SC connectors are more suitable for Patch Panels because they are easy to manage and use, LC connectors can be very fiddly to install and their push lock mechanism isnt as good as SC.
