Well the pros of auto are;
1. This initial thread would not hve opened if there was auto auto in both
side. Auto picks up UDLD. When one strand was pulled GSR would also hve
shown interface status down.
2. Hard coding wouldn't pick up on the link quality. What if u set port to
be 1 gb full and suddenly there're EMI or electronics noise. You will see a
lit of retransmission. Certain apps will stop working.

The list goes on....

Still old gear do bot support auto auto type scenario. Most new gear hve
support for auto.
