Re: Do the Looming Cisco Lay Offs Affect You?

I guess there is some irony in this conversation. The layoff daze is
never fun and it got to a point where I could not stand it at the
government X position I was holding. To put it plainly, I was not a
good enough politician to stay around so I checked the market out. I
was able to get an offer from Cisco but the layoff 'buzz' still
ringing greatly by my previous job and hearing that is what looms over
Cisco in the future immediately turned me off. The good news is that
there is a strong enough economy in Silicone Valley to support network
techs outside of Cisco. I chose Plantronics as they seem to have very
healthy financials (low inventory/high revenue) , treat associates
(the inside term for an employee) very well, and is headquartered by
the beach (probably the best perk!). Yes I chose not to go with Cisco
because in too many ways it also might be overrun by the political
guillotine. But then again, everyone I meet from Cisco seems much
smarter than that ;-)
