Re: E1 interface

Hi,

The answer lies in the controller output.

AIS = Alarm Indication Signal.

This is generated towards all ports, effectively its all 1's, and tells
the receiver not to use the E1 for clocking purposes as it has a problem.

The problem is upstream and is typically caused by a higher order
failure or open circuit. Now this could be the radio itself, if it isn't
receiving the signal from the far end, or it could be the SDH or PDH
(older) network that the far end connects to.

The best way to test this out is by loops. Loop the local end, if AIS
clears then put the circuit back through and loop on the trib at the far
end of the radio. If this works, put it back through and keep going up
the network till you find it.

Note that if the radio system provides a true 2Meg path it does not
matter if you run framed or unframed on the controller for test purposes
to a loop.
Also remember that you can run a BERT from the command line on the
router and send a PRBS test signal around the loop.

regards Andy
