Spanning-tree Alternatives

Hi Experts,

Just wanted to know what are the alternatives for spanning-tree in the
network. I am bogged down by the spanning-tree loops in the network. My
options are :-

a) Implementing VSS. But i doesn't have the right hardware for that.
b) Bringing Layer 3 down to Access layer.

Does anyone has any other option.
