VSS question on oversubscription

Hi All,
 
I am configuring VSS on the 16 port GBIC module. there should be 4 port-groups
in the card. My question is that if i want to make a VSL link in this can i
 use only the first port in each port group? ie 1st,5th,9th,13th or can I use
any port in a port-group? If yes, what is the reason for that. I know it could
only work in performance mode. I gave the no hw-module....... command for
that. Pls help ..
