RE: New CCIE SP Operations

The focus seems to be on the SP environment from the perspective of working for the/a SP.

Let's see what happens. From what this article states, http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/marketwire/0579534.htm focus is on service provider responsibilities (PE to PE and PE to CE). Also, troubleshooting and maintaining were listed rather than implementation. This track seems more "job-focused" that the CCIE SP that exists now (it seems that both would be kept as I did not see a mention of the removal of the current track). Also, this track seems to focus more on real-world setups and knowledge of an existing SP core, etc. rather than theoretical ground-up setups that invoke "strange" situations to test your knowledge, etc. like the traditional labs have been.

Every NOC is different - how can they expect to do this? There are differences in escalation tools / methods, monitoring tools/methods, technologies, procedures and so forth. A fortune 500 NOC will be much different than that of a large university - heck, each may have different NOCs for different groups.
Most NOCs I have seen use the following tools:

Netcool

HPOV

MRTG

Custom SNMP applications

Various ticket tracking systems (siebel, RT, Gemini, DPU, etc.) - all with different procedures, SLAs, escalations

Veritas

Tivoli Netview

etc.

Are they seriously going to do this and expect it to work?
