It may depend on your IOS version or the hardware platform that you
are using. Changing the auto-cost bandwidth definitely doesn't flap
OSPF or any of your adjacencies and it certainly shouldn't give you
any traceback messages.

You do are required to change ALL the routers participating in the
OSPF domain as you would get very weird results when not changing it
on all the routers.

Again you might have run into an IOS bug. I never saw this after
entering the auto-cost command :-)
