Kaniyath,
IGMP is not a multicast routing protocol. Its a protocol to allow joins and
leaves to/from multicast groups. IGMP snooping is a feature that allows a
layer 2 switch to "listen in" on the IGMP conversation between hosts and
routers by processing the layer 3 IGMP packets sent in a multicast network.
The Multicast routing protocols that I am aware of are: Protocol-Independent
Multicast (PIM), Distance-Vector Multicast Routing Protocol (DVMRP),
and Multicast
Open Shortest Path First (MOSPF).
