Maybe they are psychic? No, actually it's dependent on the chipset. I've
seen some 3rd party SFPs have no issues at all, some will work
intermittently, and some won't work at all. Stay away from the ones you
have to order in from overseas - the Chisco equipment may work at first,
but they seem to have a high failure rate. Order from a reliable
distributor (I believe comstor carries 3rd party SFPs at pretty good
rates).

I think cisco devices know when a non cisco sfp is inserted and it
doesn't like it.
