I had a chat with Russ and Bruce at Networkers. They did not know or
did not want to tell what the passing score was. However, in the long
run, the target passing rate is 20%, same as CCIE. I doubt that this
would be the case with the last practical, given the level of
difficulty that I have heard of (it seems that nothing changed since
the beta - pizza and bonbons were there). l also heard that the
format was the same, content was also 2/3 ISP stuff (ok, no longer
IS-IS).
The grading process is still manual, so we all have to wait 6 weeks or
something. Anyway, they had only 28 candidates (14 in the States, 14
in Europe), it seems. I am very curious about the outcome of the
current session and about the level of interest in the next session.
If you are still interested, I heard that the most typical candidate
mistake was overlooking the background information (i.e. all solutions
were good, but only one was the best given the constraints).
Finally, I still think this is a good exam, but it has major flaws:
- it does not provide a predictable outcome from the candidate perspective
- the difficulty level is too high, the same as the amount of
information given; this correlates with the ideal solution approach,
which is hard to "guess" - err, figure out
- bad marketing: my opinion is that interest is driven by the passing
rate and deterministic results. Give a low passing rate and no
explanation for that and you have just buried the track.
