RE: IEWB Dynamips vol2 v4.1 lab 1 Task 1.1-No Switchport config

I also faced the same issue when I started my prep for R&S, around a year
back now..

The problem is not setup or the configuration..it's problem with the 'Idle
PC' or the PC resources, required to run Dynamips. Start only two devices R1
and SW1 with the same connectivity and you will see ARP is updating and PING
is also going thru..

So the solution I tried was this.

1> adjust the Idle PC value, I used the as mentioned below.

For image: c3640-jk9o3s-mz.123-14.T7.extracted.bin .. use idlepc =
0x605313ec

2> Instead of run 2 servers (7200 & 7201) use 4 servers to minimize the load
on each instance and segregate i.e R1-R3 (instance 1), R4-R6 instance 2 and
Sw1-sw4 in instance 3 and BB1 - BB3 to instance 4..

Hope this will help..

Cheers!!

Jim,

Thanks for your reply.

Interfaces status at both the devices are in UP/UP.

Also I found very unusual problem that when I perform clear arp then Router1
doesn't recieve the arp reply from switch1. However Switch 1 recieves ARP
request from Router 1 & sends reply ARP to router 1. But Router 1 never
receives ARP reply from SW1. PLease find below the output. Its very simple
scenario however its not working.

I'd check the dynamips config and ensure those ports are mapped to each
other ... and also that the ports are admin up on the router and switch port
as well ... i know when i'm into hours of study i make some pretty odd
little mistakes like forgetting to check interface status ... or more
recently transposing octets in a frame map and spinning my mind into
thinking dynamips doesn't work or has a bug or something ... only to go get
a cup of coffee and spot my error :)

Usually things like this are errors and not a problem with the program.

Subject: IEWB Dynamips vol2 v4.1 lab 1 Task 1.1-No Switchport config query

Hi,

IEWB Dynamips version 4.1 Volume 2 ---Task 1.1---Configuring routed
interface on switch

This is simple query regarding configuring routed interface on a switch &
giving ip address. Switch physically connects to router interface. I am
performing this task on dynamips however it is not working.

As per IEWB vol2 Lab 1 please find below the physical connection &
configuration:-

Router 1 (F0/0) <----> Switch 1 (F1/1)

Router 1 interface Config

Rack1R1#sh run int f0/0
Building configuration...
Current configuration : 94 bytes
!
interface FastEthernet0/0
ip address 183.1.17.1 255.255.255.0
speed 100
full-duplex
end
Rack1R1#

Switch 1 interface config

Rack1SW1#sh run int f1/1
Building configuration...
Current configuration : 109 bytes
!
interface FastEthernet1/1
description To R1 F0/0
no switchport
ip address 183.1.17.7 255.255.255.0
end
Rack1SW1#

Rack1SW1#pi 183.1.17.1
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 183.1.17.1, timeout is 2 seconds:
.....
Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)
Rack1SW1#

I am not able to PING these devices from each other.

Please could you advice if my configuration is correct or I need to
configure some other way to achieve this task.
