Can I always use access-list with distribute-list?

Dear expert,

Hi. Can I always use ACL with distribute-list? I mean sometimes I read in
IEWB they use prefix-list, can I assume all of distribute-list with
access-list?

Is it give the same result between prefix-list & access-list? I know if they
need to be more complex filtering try access-list and if simple filtering
(e.g just one network) try prefix-list. But I need more simple think by
using ACL for both criterias.
