Hey Sadiq,

So let's say the interface is 10 Mbps. With Option B, isn't the "voice"
class always going to be limited to 500 kbps? Regardless of congestion or
not? But with Option A, the voice class could chew up all 10 Mbps in the
absence of congestion, no? So there's a difference there. In the case of
my recent client, they thought it was just good practice to make the config
clear. But they were policing themselves even when no other traffic was
present, and thus wasting $$ (the links were all radio/cellular/SATCOM, so
you pay for the BW regardless of whether or not you use it!).

We may be saying the exact same thing in different ways, not entirely
clear...

Cheers,

Scott

This is what I think regarding the second case: So far your traffic is
below 500, the policing will not even take place anyway. Its only when
the traffic goes above 500 that the police command even has an effect,
in which case it performs exactly what the first case is doing by
default anyway.

So in essence, without congestion on the interface, in the second case
as well, the policing is not any useful I would think.

Just my thot tho..

Sadiq
