James,
I'm proud of you man... The fact you are going to bounce right back, and hit
the rack even harder will prove you are really a CCIE! "You have the deepest
commitment, the most serious mind"
Nothing feels worse than logging in to the CCIE site and seeing the word
"fail" next to your date, lab type, and location. You'll wonder if there was
something you could have done, or changed, or read better.... you're going
to have at least one thing that even back in your living room, or office you
won't be able to solve (am I right?)
It's hard. It's fun. Isn't this the best thing we have done with Cisco?!
One thing I recommend is get a game plan built around how you know the lab
is now. THINK LIKE A PROCTOR... And by this I mean, HOW WOULD I GRADE THIS
GUY'S ANSWER?
Did you draw your layer 2 diagram first?
Did you draw your layer 3 diagram on a different page later?
Did you make a list of tasks and points?
Did you take breaks to clear your thought and calm down?
And yes,
It comes down to having at least 2 hours to go back and completely re-read,
and re-verify every single damn answer (no matter how small it may be in the
solution)
Joe ;)

Subject: 1st Attempt - Failed R/S - Jan 31st
Well, i honestly thought i prepped enough to make the 1st attempt a success.
That was a great exam in my opinion ... very difficult but fair. And
certainly passible on the 1st attempt ... just not by me I guess. :)
Taking the weekend off to relax as I had major delays getting back because
of a storm in Toronto.
Key issue:
Speed on Layer2/3
- It took me way to long because i mistakenly went down a few rat
holes. Errors I thought I made but didn't ate a lot of time on me.
In the end, i had no time to troubleshoot ... i think that was my downfall.
My focus now is to try the mock 8hr labs (as many as possible) over and over
again (with new ones) until i can get them done in 4-5 hours I think.
Proctors were great. Any worries about breaks and food should not concern
people. You can take fruit and any food as long as it's not in paper boxes
and such to your desk. They have a cafe with coffee, juice, water and soft
drinks ... so you can get a few for your desk. Lunch as good ... meat and
potatoes and dessert. (recommend not having the sugar rush though).
Anyhow ... weekend off ... back to it next week ... i wish everyone else
great luck. Like i say ... it's passible! Time management is the key if
you've prepared well.
Jim
