Hello,

PIM is used to communicate multicast information between layer 3
devices. Many People still argue that normal PCs are capable of doing
layer 3 though since some servers out there now do routing protocol
stuffs, but that's not the point of this thread, so I wouldn't digress.

I don't feel like typing long replies today, so I will keep it short.
You don't need PIM on the fastethernet interface that connects to PC's
be it multicast receiver/source ... However you need IGMP as a protocol
of multicast communication between headends and their nearest multicast
device.

It's worth nothing though that enabling PIM on a layer 3 interface
usually enables IGMP on same as well.

Many Thanks

Subject: Multicast on interface on which hosts is connected

Dear All,

Is it required for enabling PIM on a fastethernet interface which is
connected to Multicast receivers? Assuming that the router is a Stub
Router
and has one serial connection through which the router receives
multicast
feeds and PIM is enabled on the serial interface.

Regards,
Sridhar.
