It has far, FAR more to do with your operating system than your hardware.
The developers recommend 64-bit Linux over 32-bit Linux/OS X over Windows
XP. They do not recommend Vista at all.
If you can switch to Linux or OS X, you would possibly be on the border with
the below hardware. I personally would recommend at least a 2 GHz Duo Core
with at least 2GB RAM, although you can even get away with 1GB if you run
sparsemem, ghostios, and you don't really run anything else on the box.
Generically speaking, shoot for 2 x 2 x 2 (GHz, cores, RAM). If you insist
on running it on XP, consider even more horsepower.
