Can someone kindly explain why the solution guide has the interfaces
configured as switchport mode dot1q-tunnel in addition to
l2protocol-tunnel? Since the routers connected to the switch
interfaces are not running 802.1q encapsulation, why is the
dot1q-tunnel command needed?

Wouldn't this task work equally well with just l2protocol-tunnel configured?
