Static RP.

The static RP without the override keyword can be used as a failover over
technique for Auto-RP and BSR.

Yeah sorry should add,

There is a Gre between the two routers, its then filtered out via VRFs and
the pix does the final termination, it needs to be that way due to the way
the middle router is actually one device but using controlled VRFs.
Management etc is also done from the middle and there are other reasons.

So Gre end to end not an option.

Bah! That's easy...

Just gre tunnel THRU the pix... Then your bsr/auto-rp messages will flow
unobstructed.

For giggles I would also try anycast/msdp thru the pix...

Group,

Slitghly off topic, but here goes

Imagine the scenario, two links, with two routers, primary link router is
defined as the RP. Secondary needs manually brought out of shudown on
failure of primary link or router, you think Auto-RP or BSR right ? well the
problem is the each link goes through a Pix 515e then they both join up at a
6509. In their wisdom pixos 7.0 beyond dropped support for Auto RP or BSR!
Any other suggestions how to avoid the manual failover technique?

Route(RP)------------------Router---PIX------| 6509|

                                                                    |
| ------ Client

Router(Backup)-----------Router---PIX------| 6509|

Thanks in advance
