With a 2801 that PVDM-12 will not work, but he may look at the price
differential of a 2811 (which WILL take that PVDM-12) versus moving to a
PVDM2-16.

Are you sure that the PVDM-12 will work in the 2801? For the 2801
he needs a PVDM2 (i.e. PVDM2-16).
