I never used aliases. On both tracks.
The reason is not related to the lab.
The reasons are:
1. You can't have the same aliases on all devices of your customerS. So at
the end you will waste time on try to issue alias commands on devices
without them, and you look very foolish doing so.
2. When doing typo's you actually might learn new commands. Many times when
I make a typo, I use the "?" and then I might discover new commands.
3. When using alias you might be tempted to use aliased commands that are
not the best one for what you are looking for.
But the most important thing is the this is very subjective issue, whats
good for me might not be good for others.
