I have a strange RSPAN problem and I'm not sure if it's a bug or I'm doing something wrong. I have two routers (R1 and R2) connected to a 3550 (SW1). R1 and R2 are connected to SW1 as access ports on VLAN12. I have a trunk connection between SW1 and another 3550 (SW2). I created VLAN100 on both switches as remote span VLAN's. VLAN100 is allowed over the trunk. I have another router (R3) connected to SW2 as an access port and the connection is up.
I configured a monitor session on SW1 with VLAN12 as my source VLAN with my destination the RSPAN VLAN100. My understanding of a reflexor port is basically a loopback port. I used fa0/24 on the switch as it is free and doesn't have anything plugged into it.
SW1#sh vlan | b SPAN
Remote SPAN VLANs
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
100
SW1#sh vlan id 12
VLAN Name Status Ports
---- -------------------------------- --------- -------------------------------
12 VLAN0012 active Fa0/3, Fa0/4
SW1#sh run | i monitor
monitor session 1 source vlan 12 rx
monitor session 1 destination remote vlan 100 reflector-port Fa0/24
SW1#show int fa0/24
FastEthernet0/24 is down, line protocol is down (monitoring) <---- should this be up??
SW1#show int fa0/13 trunk
Port Mode Encapsulation Status Native vlan
Fa0/13 on 802.1q trunking 1
Port Vlans allowed on trunk
Fa0/13 1-4094
Port Vlans allowed and active in management domain
Fa0/13 1,12,16,26,100
Port Vlans in spanning tree forwarding state and not pruned
Fa0/13 none
===
SW2#sh vlan | b SPAN
Remote SPAN VLANs
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
100
SW2#sh run | i monitor
monitor session 1 destination interface Fa0/1
monitor session 1 source remote vlan 100
Now... this doesn't look right:
SW2#show int fa0/1
FastEthernet0/1 is up, line protocol is down (monitoring) <--- shouldn't this be up??
But I remove:
"no monitor session 1 destination interface Fa0/1"
SW1#show int fa0/1
FastEthernet0/1 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
And put it back:
"monitor session 1 destination interface Fa0/1"
SW2#show int fa0/1
FastEthernet0/1 is up, line protocol is down (monitoring)
My router R3 which is connected to Fa0/1 never receives RSPAN traffic. Am I missing something or is there something wrong? The config seems simple and I'm familiar with SPAN so I can't understand what's wrong here. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
