K -
I had the same issue here in the states at RTP.
What I did is take one of those ridiculous dates and then just watched every
day for cancellations, I ended up moving up 4 months.
I did open a case with Cisco and they confirmed that it was indeed fully
booked and they were not blocking out any dates (except the normal dates
they are always closed, ie: holidays, and Wednesdays in RTP)
I think that there is a big push for lab dates right now in the CCIE-SP for
multiple reasons
1 - On Feb 1 they retired those old CCIE-SP written exams. Given that the
new exam was supposed to be more comprehensive, I am sure many decided to
rush and take the old exam first. This created an influx of candidates that
were qualified (at least on paper) to take the CCIE Lab.
2 - There is an impression by many out there that the CCIE-SP is an easy
CCIE to attain. I think this impression is driven from 2 factors, one there
is not a lot of resources available until recently for bootcamps and study
guides for it. What was available didn't really cover all of the topics.
This could give someone the false impression that if the study guides aren't
covering it, it must not be on the exam. The other factor is that I have
heard a few double CCIE's (R/S & SP) saying that the SP was much easier then
R/S. Given I personally have never taken the R/S I cannot speak to that, but
I have taken and passed a JNCIE-M lab and have taken and failed the CCIE-SP,
I found that they are comparable in level of difficulty. So I would not say
it is "easy"
3 - There has been talk about the CCIE-SP lab being changed, possibly to
include GSR's (IOS-XR), etc, which would be a significant divergence from
where the lab is currently at, that coupled with the talk of MPLS being
added to the R/S creates a bit of uncertainty which drives people to want to
take the lab now before it changes.
So the moral of the story is this,
1 - Be patient, a sooner lab date will open up - but you have to watch for
it.
2 - Don't underestimate this lab, it is difficult
take care and good luck,
Adam
