RE: UDP Flooding Broadcast Question

It's port 434 that is used, so I'd go along with the forward-protocol and
helper-address.

Never mind the fact that this isn't how Mobile IP works. ;) Just do what
the lab asks! This is the extent that we'll need to think about Mobile IP
as it's been removed from the Blueprint.

Your other command there for "ip broadcast-address" is only effective if
your router is what is registering you. The default broadcast address per
interface is 255.255.255.255, and if you want to override this you can.
Changing it to something that doesn't exist on the local subnet is, at best,
very strange. :)

Subject: UDP Flooding Broadcast Question

Good afternoon, all,

Here is the situation that I am trying to get straigh in my mind.

Configure an interface on a router to forward incoming Mobile IP
registration broadcasts to 140.100.2.254?

1. What are Mobile IP registrations ports? I am assuming UDP but what
ports.
2. If I had the UDP port information, I planned to configure the "ip
forward-protocol udp" command.

Two options available:
1. Use "ip helper-address 140.100.2.254" command to forward the UDP
broadcast to the 140.100.2.254 address.
OR
2. Use "ip broadcast-address" command to forward the UDP broadcast to the
140.100.2.254 address.

Why would I use the "ip helper-address command" over the "ip
broadcast-address: or vice versa? Seems to me that all broadcasts would be
send to 140.100.2.254 if the "ip broadcast-address" command was utilized and
not just restricted to the Mobile IP registration broadcasts.

Man, I am so confused!!!!!

I am not seeing what the differentiator.

Thanks,

Jerry
