I do not tihnk you have given enough information. Were the backbones sending
identical updates? Was one BB router sending updates with AS path prepend?
Although you can do very complex things with BGP, it operates in a very
simple way. Know the BGP path selection process from the documentation CD
and basically route selection can only follow that process
