Ive configured this and its worked without pim on the loopback address, my
understanding is that its sent to the RP as unicast then flooded to the
members of the group via multicast

cheers

Hi Horobin,

I think using loopback interface as a RP........you need to enable pim on
the loobback of the RP. Let say, if you not enable pim on loopback interface,
it will not respond any multicast quarry, which is required for multicast
traffic forwarding.

Correct me, if I am wrong.

Jai

All,

In IP Multicast, when you configure sparse mode with a Static RP, and the RP
address be a loopback address of any router. I believe it is not a necessity
to enable pim on the loopback address of the RP. My question is, if in the
lab, and you were presented with this and you didnt enable pim on the loopback
address of the RP, as their are two ways to configure with PIM enabled or not.
How would it be marked, would it be with a show run, to find out if the RP has
PIM enabled or would a connectivity check be carried out to verify the
outcome. Also would both solutions be acceptable if their is not explicit
instructions in the question to enable pim on the loopback address

Cheers in advance

Darren
