Here you are - give more than one way if you have it...
I was answering some questions for someone and decided to determine what that person may think is easy or hard based on a few "easy" questions?
=========================================================================
The original question was: "How hard is the IEWB compared to the real lab" to which I replied...
Then I thought, why not let those on GS have a stab at a few things...?
I have not yet sat the exam yet but reports are - that they are about the same in terms of difficulty.
Let me ask you a few small questions, since the lab is in essence only a few small questions, after all.
1. How many VTP modes are there?
2. How many ways can you influence the Root Bridge or the Root Port in Spanning Tree?
3. Do you know how to read the Ext-Sys-Id?
4. Do you know how to compute and/or influence the HSRP virtual Mac-Address?
5. How many way can you configure an interface for Frame Relay?
6. How many OSPF Network Types are there? How many broadcast / NBMA? And if one or more options were removed then what would you do?
7. Do you know the Adminstrative Distances? What are they?
8. Do you remember Split-Horizon? Which protocols care, which do not? What are the defaults and how would you tweak them?
9. How about ospf priority? What does it do? How do you modify it?
10. Do you know how to modify timers for OSPF, RIP, EIGRP, ODR? What is special about ODR and unique to ODR that might trip you up if you were told to modify the Fluch timers to a value like 10 seconds?
11. Do you know about metrics and ways to modify them?
12. Do you know about peer neigbor routes and way to correct them? The notorious /32's...
13. Do you know how to configure bandwidth in EIGRP?
14. How are your skills with ACLs - Do you use a wildcard or a mask? Do you know how to filter odds and evens?
15. Ever heard of a Prefix-list? Tell me about it? Why would a prefer a Prefix-list to an ACL? What does 0.0.0.0/24 le 32 ge 32 mean to you and can you vary it and tell me what your prefix-list is doing?
16. What can you do with a Route-Map?
17. RIP - Rest in Peace... Do you know the effects of Split-Horizon may have on your otherwise config that looks like it working, but may not be?
18. EIGRP and Split-Horizon over Frame...? Tell me about it.
19. Do you know how to summarize in RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, and what is different in BGP?
20. In OSPF, can you tell me explicitly about a Virtual-Link? How to connect it to area 0? Can I have two area 0's? How would I fix this, better yet how would you fix it? And what if you had to use authentication?
21. In OSPF, summary or area range this is the question... ? Tell me more...
22. In OSPF, what is the significance of type-1 and type-2 metric? How would you modify these?
23. In OSPF, what are the attributes that must be the same to form adjacency?
24. In OSPF, if you had 2 routers connected via an ethernet link both in area 200, how would you keep each area in its own area 200 (i.e. they both connect to the area 0, say over frame)? How would you do it? Can you do it?
25. How about ip default-network...? What is a candidate-default route? What is the signifigance of a major network? Tell me more and give me scenarios you might find this useful?
26. What is the difference between CRB and IRB?
27. Have you configured IRDP yet? What needs to be done on a client it if is a router? How do you set prefer a gateway without setting it up on a client?
28. What does 224.0.0.18 mean to you? What is the multicast address of HSRP?
29. Have you configured GLBP yet? Tell me about tracking?
30. Have you configured WCCP or DRP? Tell me quickly how to configure it, or better yet give me the link on the UNIVERCD site...
31. What about SLB? What does weight mean to you? Tell me about it.
32. BGP - To reflect or now? When would I use a confederation? A Peer Group?
33. How do I orignate routes or prefixes into BGP?
34. How do I specify a neighbor?
33. How many ways can you influence a Route in BGP? Can you tell me the order of operations?
34. Quickly, what does SIA mean to you...? How would you troubleshoot it?
35. Do you know how to debug with conditions?
36. Do you know how to write a TCL Script for IPv4 and IPv6? How would you write a similar script for a switch? Talk to me...
37. How many modes do we have when using IP PIM?
38. Why would we probably not see MOSPF on the CCIE Lab exam?
39. Can you read an OILIST?
40. Can you configure MSDP?
41. What are those two pesky MAC-Addresses in Multicast...
42. Do you know how to filter in multicast?
43. Do you know to configure a link-local address in IPv6?
44. Do you know how to configure SNAT?
45. Do you know how to configure a MENU?
46. Do you know how to configure a crash dump? Configure a SLARP Client?
47. Basic and Highly Secure Authentication configuration?
48. Have you ever configured Fallback bridging?
49. What do most peopel forget to configure in IRB?
50. Give me some uses of Mobile IP or LAM? Tell me where did you find them. Tell me how they are different?
51. Can EIGRP use unicast? How can you verify?
52. Tell me how to configure RIP for Unicast/Multicast/Broadcast?
53. Tell me how to configure PAT?
54. Tell me how to configure PBR?
55. When is Proxy-Arp useful?
56. Tell me about Stub areas and name me all of the ones I might see in OSPF? Now tell me which LSA's are significant for each? When configuring an NSSA where might I configure default-information-originate - on which router? What about the rest of the routers in the area? How are they configured?
57. What if I told you to configure DHCP for one client only but not use a MAC-Address to reserve the IP for that client? How might you do it? And if that client were a router? How about if I told you to do the same task for say three different clients?
These are just some "easy" questions off the top of my head...
Feel free to answer them and while doing so if there are 2, 3 or 4 more ways to do the same task theis always better...
