Brian,
I have found some respite.It did not work with the ip route-cache
command on the interfaces in the path. I tried to change the source ip
( while pinging) to the loopback interface of R5 and i was able to
get replies from R3 and R2 without any problems. Now will have to
troubleshoot the cause of this.
