Sorry my routers are numbered a little differently from my post (for simplifing things).
R3 sends the update to either r1 or r2 to withdraw the route.
So it should read
"BGP(0): 3.3.3.3 rcv UPDATE about 1.1.1.0/24 -- withdrawn"
