OT: 6500 Compact Flash Memory

Team,

I apologize for the OT, but I'm curious to know different opinions.

Recently, at my place of employment - every 256k Cisco Removable Flash card
was stolen from each 6500 Switch. The switches have not been placed into the
production network yet, and thus, were not fully configured, implemented,
tested, etc... From what I can find, it looks like the removable flash is
used to hold either an image or a config. It does not appear that the
external memory is required for the 6500s to operate (assuming the image and
config are saved internally to the 6500).

My question is - do the switches require the Flash modules to operate? It
appears not, since I was able to load the IOS and config from internal memory.
But since these devices are not in production yet, I can't stress test them.

Thanks for any advice offered. I am admittedly ignorant to the uses of memory
between all the different Cisco platforms. Thanks in advance,
Sean
