FW: mls QoS question

Imal,

Did you read this?

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/c3550/12225sec/3550scg/s
wqos.htm#wp1059073

What it says here is what I know.

I haven't personally experimented with this particular situation.

My advice is this:

1. READ THE DOC's (If you can't understand what the doc's
are saying (not all that uncommon considering the quality of the doc's),
then post on GS for some clarification.)

2. After reading the doc's and understanding what's it
saying, then try it out hands-on

3. Write Down EVERY instance where your hands-on results
vary from what's in the DOC's

Try to understand the reason for the discrepancy eg. The doc's are wrong
(unfortunately, not all that uncommon) OR maybe the IOS version running on
your box is different from the IOS version of the doc's you're looking at
and the implementation changed. Or, there's something a bit different about
your config vs the config being discussed in the doc's.

If you can't understand the cause for the discrepancy, then post on GS eg.
"the doc's say this, but I found this. Am I missing or not understanding
something or are the doc's just plain wrong?"

If you learn or discover something related to this issue that could help
others, post it on GS so other can benefit from your experience.

If the doc's are easy to mis-interpret or in some way misleading, post that
on GS. If you had a problem understanding what the doc's were saying, it's
sure bet that others will also have that same problem.

Imal, I don't know the answer to your particular question but it looks like
you have access to a 3550. If so, try it out and let us know what you find.

Tim

Subject: Re: mls QoS question

Hi Tim & the Group,
I also observed this message when ever I try to enable mls qos.
My question is, this..
Say we have flow control enable for one port & rest is without flow
control..
But the message we get is

Rack1SW2(config)#mls qos
QoS: ensure flow-control on all interfaces are OFF for proper operation.
So does that means even if the flow control is ON for one port, the mls qos
will not
function properly..?

Cheers,
Imal

Jeff,

By default, flow control isn't an issue when it comes to QoS. However, in
the lab, you should ALWAYS double check to see whether non-default settings
have been pre-configured.

Remember part of the challenge of passing the lab is being able to
troubleshoot problems while under time pressure. So, don't assume any
setting is at its default.

All, when enabling QoS on the 3550, I always get the following:

Rack1SW2(config)#mls qos
QoS: ensure flow-control on all interfaces are OFF for proper operation.

Does anyone go under the interfaces in question and disable flow control
as standard?

Thanks,
Jeff
