Good point, I learn something new everyday !

so basically the HSRP Standby group number has to be unique ONLY across the
broadcast domain and NOT the entire device..

so

int vlan 1
10.0.1.X/24
standby 1

int vlan 2
10.0.2.X/24
standby 2

int vlan 3
10.0.3.X/24
standby 1

is perfectly ok .. interesting, makes sense considering it uses link local
multicast which are non routable !

feel a bit stupid now !

I suppose the only time it could get a bit complicated is when you start
tracking ..
Luckily I dont need to do that !

Many Thanks Kev & Danny !

Have a look at the below depending on what you are upto its unlikely you
will hit the 16 limit:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_qanda_item0918

Unless maybe you have lots of secondaries in a funny config.

I have two supervisors - SUP1A and a SUP2 in two 6506's

The SUP1A supports 256 standby groups for HSRP
the SUP2 only supports 16 (hardware limitation)

I have 26 standby groups.

If I upgrade the images, and use VRRP, will I still have a problem ?
Can't find 'diddly-squat' on the site about VRRP limitations with SUP2 ..

Just curious to see if anyone has come across this little chestnut before ?
