If you want to look at a more sophisticated way of selecting the best
route, take a look at Optimal edge routing, background info at

Cisco OER periodically selects the optimal exit link from the available
ISP connections based on performance (delay, packet loss, and
reachability) and cost information. His is however a router rathre than
PIX function though.

you could peer the outside edge routers with inside core routers and
then redistribute the best route into the IGP. I have almost this exact
same config running in production...works well.
