Hi,
The L3 interface would work only with the directly connected device in the absence of a routing protocol where as the SVI would talk to all devices on that VLAN. Performance-wise, I would think SVI should be slightly slower.
From the CCIE lab perspective, the candidate would get a zero if it was previously given to assign the particular port to an access VLAN and later on routing is enabled on the IP. One would end up losing easy points on the switching part and also the routing part if the question says that you should enable routing on a particular VLAN.
