Re: using L3 interfaces or SVI interfaces

Geert,

The one upside I can think of using SVI is if MLS is enabled on the switch,
which I believe is the default setting in the newer code, inter-vlan packet
switching will occur faster if both the host and destination are connected
to the same switch. RP will be burdened less as only the first packet in
the traffic flow will be sent up to the RP for making routing decisions and
the subsequent packets will be switched by the SP using the MLS cache.

Hi,

Are there any performance or other differences in comparing the
following two configurations:

Layer 3 Interfaces:

int fa1/0
   ip address 1.1.1.1 mask 255.255.255.252
router eigrp 10
   network 1.0.0.0

compared to:

Switched Virtual Interfaces:

int fa1/0
 switchport mode access
 switchport access vlan 100

int vlan 100
 ip address 1.1.1.1 mask 255.255.255.252
router eigrp 10
 network 1.0.0.0

??
