Actualy I agree. But in real life I use the "switchport host" macro
which disables all the "auto" stuff that can make you have an ugly day.
So just one command and your switch port has all the features configured
which are usual on an access port. BTW: "switchport host" sets also the
port to access mode. :-)

I dont know whether they penalise us or not if we leave it like
that...as
would be taking the LAB fo r the first time...and even if it was the Nth
time i wouldnt have know...right..
Coming back why we have to configure it like this...i feel when the
requirement is to have a pure access port we have to set the port mode
to
access.
As by not doing this ...another switch if connected on the same port may
negotiate a trunk.
May work well in a LAB scenario but definately not a Best Practise in
real
life.
