Is there a difference beteen helping to pass the lab exam and helping you
see where you were and what level you were at?
I wasn't aware that the two were mutually exclusive of ecah other. Yes, the
bootcamp should help point out where you are at and see what areas you need
work with. Yes, the bootcamp should help you develop a strategy. Yes, it
should give you a venue to talk with others in the same boat you are in and
have your questions adequately answered by a (hopefully) knowledgeable
instructor.
Are those things all not steps along the way to helping you with your lab
exam? I would think so. That's what is supposed to happen anyway.
Nobody can guarantee that you will pass the lab. There are a number of
factors outside of an instructor delivering multiple missives to the masses,
many of which are personal in nature. However, preparation can reach a
level where things are familiar enough for someone to pass.
Nobody can know everything, but you can be presented with a series of
information that allows you a framework to attack any technology thrown at
you. It's that whole "teaching you to fish" rather than presenting a
platter of prepared fish for you. The "battle" is different for each person
though. I do agree with you though that bootcamps promising that you will
pass the exam are crossing a difficult line between philosophy and
marketing! (I'm really hoping that we don't PROMISE that! (grin))

What a crock of crap that is. The bootcamp helped me see where I am and
what level I was at. It gave me a chance to see where I stood in respect
to myself, and the other people in the class. It gave me a venue to discuss
issues with other real live people. The bootcamp that I went to showed me
my areas of weakness, and for 6 months since then I have been bustin my a$$
to get ready for my first title shot at the CCIE belt.
To say that the bootcamps make you pass the lab exam only is BS. Its
actually disrespectful to all the people here and the people that teach the
bootcamp. 5 days does not make you CCIE material, period. I took my
bootcamp in Novemeber. I have been doing labs 8 to 10 hours a day every day
since then. The bootcamp showed me that I had a lot to learn, and then I
went in that direction.
As far as I know, there is no easy way to win this battle, to even say that
is crap.
