A 2900xl can only have one interface vlan with an ip
Address assined at active at one time..its for the
Management of the switch only....the default is int vlan 1..

without a doubt.

the XL switches can have multiple vlan interfaces configured with IP
addresses, but only one can be up at a time. This "up" interface is set
using the "management" command.

The 2950 switches don't use the "management" command - and you just need
to issue a no-shut on the new vlan interface for it to become active.

I have no idea why EbonyGuru@aol.com was having problems - but he said
that he needed to issue a no-shut on vlan 1 before it would work. If
this was the reason - then it would certainly make remote configuration
impossible if you were trying to change management vlans I would be
interested in knowing the exact switch model he is using...

Maybe because it doesn't have an IP address on it? Or maybe it's some
variation in software versions?
